Windy New Year

Jan 10, 2019

Happy New Year! Earlier this week, we experienced some of our strongest wind gusts yet, this winter. Overnight Monday, we had a cold front that extended from Ontario, down into Minnesota. The tail end of this cold front whipped across the state, causing some pretty strong winds to impact travel and toss around loose objects on Tuesday. Watching our wind speeds most of the day, all of our stations were recording consistent winds in the 30s, with gusts into the 40s. We never saw a reading over 47 mph, but even that is a considerable gust for January standards. That night and into Wednesday temperatures plummeted across the county. Our wind chills Tuesday afternoon were already starting to drop from the high winds.
