Hennepin West Mesonet Extremes of 2020

Feb 09, 2021

Our Hennepin West Mesonet network has recorded another year’s worth of weather extreme data. The graphic below captures some of those extremes throughout 2020. The day, August 14, 2020, we had two tornadoes and a downburst in Hennepin County, was also the same day we saw the greatest 1-hour temperature change at Fridley, as the cold front passed. We have also noticed since Corcoran was installed, we consistently see it measure temperatures a couple degrees colder than surrounding stations, due to it being in a valley. In 2020, Corcoran had the most days below freezing and the lowest air temperature of the year.
